The Government fails to announce Wage increment

The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary general Francis Atwoli and Labour CS Ukur Yatani led Labour Day Celebrations on Wednesday at Uhuru Park where workers had expectations of 15% wage increment. In attendance were Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, KNUT secretary general Wilson Sossion and other dignitaries.

In his speech, COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli attacked people not supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta and the war against corruption. Atwoli told the Tanga Tanga group to stop inciting Kenyans. “Don’t incite the community. We want to support Uhuru in eradicating corruption. I can’t say that all Kikuyus are washenzi,” he said.

He further defended his usage of the word ‘washenzi’ after a section of Murang’ a leaders said it was directed at the community. “Mimi ni mkikuyu kuliko wakikuyu wengine…do not incite the Kikuyu community. My first girlfriend was a Kikuyu. Do not incite Kenyans, my mother was the second wife of my father and she is a Kikuyu,” he said.

Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion also present at the Uhuru park celebrations asked Labour CS Ukur Yattani to ensure that Kenya’s sanity and order are restored. He also bashed that Federation of Kenya Employers (FKF) officials who boycotted the labour day celebrations. “It is a shame that FKE and the government have boycotted labour day,” has said. “The employers of Kenya have snubbed this event… shame on you, shame… as we fight corruption… it is wrong for FKE to lead workers to avoid labour day… wafanyikazi are the cause of industrial unrest and We thank the leadership in Parliament for standing with workers. We can all stand up one-day and end corruption,” he said.
