A Murang’a court has allowed police officers to hold a suspect arrested in the murder of a female prison warden while they conduct further investigations.
Peterson Mwaura Njiru will remain in custody at Murang’a police station for two weeks as directed by resident magistrate Sheila Nyaga.
According to Murang’a DCI officer Abdalla Ali Peterson was the boyfriend to the victim Pauline Wangari, which makes him a person of interest in the murder investigations.
Murang’a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua also said that his team was looking for other suspects who would assist in the investigations.
The court set the mention date of the case on May 30. The magistrate also ordered that the suspect should be taken for a psychiatric evaluation before the mention date.
The deceased Pauline Wangari was found dead in her room in Kiharu estate by her colleagues who had come to check her out after she did not report on duty for two days.
The 24-year-old warden had three visible knife wounds on her chest and the neck.
Josphat said the police have begun forensic investigations to get a clear view of the wardens timeline before her death.
