Knut Secretary-General Wilson Sossion Thursday directed its members to boycott the Competency Based Curriculum and instead teach the old curriculum.
Sossion said the attitude displayed by the Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha and the Teachers Service Commission was derailing the progress of the Competence Based Curriculum.
“Professor Magoha should consult us on the decisions being made in relation to the new curriculum…it is unfortunate that the CS does not respect the teachers. He has not called us for any meeting and we have not refused to attend any consultation,” said Sossion.
Sossion added that the launch of the new curriculum on Wednesday by the CS did not involve all stakeholders.
“The teachers have not been sufficiently trained on how to examine students in a curriculum that puts less emphasis on examinations,” Sossion said.
His statement comes after Magoha had vowed to crush anyone who would try to deter the implementation of the new curriculum.
“I don’t play politics and will crush anybody who will play politics with the new curriculum,” Magoha warned.
Speaking during the launch, Magoha said the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) had hidden agendas and did not have a valid reason for opposing the new curriculum.
