All health workers at Kerugoya Referral Hospital have been ordered to leave the facility by the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU).
KMDPU Secretary General Ouma Oluga said that health workers under the Ministry of Health who defy the directive will be disobeying the law.
“Kirinyaga County has failed to honour its promise in cleaning the hospital as it is still in a deplorable state,” Oluga id.
Oluga said this after inspecting Kerugoya Hospital and declared that the hospital is closed until regulatory bodies approved its reopening.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses chairman John Angwasi also backed the decision and promised to look out for the working conditions of health workers.
A report of the hospital dated May 13, 2019 stated that the hospital had blocked sewages, blood stained walls, leaking roofs and only one functioning patient monitor.
Kerugoya hospital was plunged into this dilapidated condition after Kirinyaga Governor Waiguru fired over 300 casual workers.
