Does your job involve working extremely long hours yet you can’t just quit? Here are a couple of tips you can use to help you strike a balance.
- Plan ahead
Sometimes, long hours at work can be caused by lack of planning. Plan your day the day before or very early in the morning. You can do this by creating a to-do-list which will guide you throughout the day. For example, if you are working in a newsroom with long hours, you can do your research beforehand so that you can be clear on the direction you want to take. This will enable you to save a lot of time.
2. Carry packed lunch and snacks
When you are working long hours, you may not have the time to step out for lunch. So to make sure that you don’t do a disservice to your body, carry packed lunch from home. You can also buy a few snacks to keep on nibbling as you work.
3. Get enough sleep
When you are working long hours in your office, it is possible that you will have a few hours of sleep. So how do you maximize on those few hours that you have? Pick out your clothes and shoes, and pack your bag the day before. This will buy you some extra sleeping time in the morning.
You can also take a quick nap during your lunch break to rejuvenate your system.
4. Try and be efficient
Find a way to complete the task at hand within the shortest time possible. However, be sure not to compromise on the quality of your work.
5. Take breaks
When your workplace is really busy, one can easily forget to take a break. Constantly remind yourself to take short breaks so that you can rejuvenate. Avoid missing your lunch breaks so that you can replenish your energy.
6. Identify a way to unwind
After a long week of work, set aside some time to do what you love. For some people, their ideal way to unwind is by going out with friends, others watching a series indoors, whereas others it’s just sleeping.
