Court postpones implementation of housing levy

The High Court has ordered the government to hold on the implementation of house levy until June 10, 2019.

This is the second time the High Court has extended the rolling out of 1.5 percent housing levy.

This case was brought in court by organizations challenging the government’s order to have 1.5 percent deducted from every employees’ salary in order to create a housing kitty.

Justice Maureen Onyango ordered that the cases from these organization be heard together on June 10.

The organizations challenging this order include Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU), Consumer Federations of Kenya (COFEK), Federation of Kenya Employees (FKE), and Trade Union Congress of Kenya.

This housing project is being pushed by the Jubilee administration so that it can accomplish one of the prospects of the Big Four Agenda which is Affordable Housing scheme.
