Non-civil servants who have been enjoying cheap rent in government houses will now dig deeper into their pockets to find other houses allocated for the general public
The county government of Nyeri is embarking on repossessing over 100 civil servants houses in Nyeri being occupied unlawfully.
The house units spread across the entire county have been irregularly allocated to members of the public as others are occupied by retired civil servants who should have vacated.
The Nyeri County Director for Housing, Thomas Mundia said his department is awaiting the reconstitution of the National Land Commission (NLC) before embarking on the reclamation exercise.
“Immediately the NLC is reconstituted, my team will embark on repossessing the grabbed houses to pave way for allocation to deserving civil servants,” said the official
Mundia added that civil servants houses that were in a deplorable state will be condemned and brought down to pave way for construction of new and modern houses.
