A clinical officer from Machakos Level 5 hospital is among those who have been suspended by the county governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, for coming to work drunk.
Two other clinical officers from Kangundo hospital have also been suspended for referring patients to private hospitals.
The three will be given a chance to defend themselves but if found guilty, they will be charged or imprisoned, the governor said.
“Initial reports show that for every referral, the health workers got a kickback. Pure corruption. It has been going on for ages. That is one of the reasons hospital equipment is sabotaged and drugs hidden. This time we have caught them. No turning back,” Dr Mutua tweeted.
