Principal held over KTN journalists attack freed on bail

School principal Charles Kioko who was arrested after KTN journalists got attacked in the school has been released on Sh1 million bond.

Appearing before Machakos Court magistrate Evans Kaego, he pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and causing bodily harm to a KTN camera person Boniface Kirera, reporter Caroline Bii and driver Immaculate together with others not before court.

Other charges include arson, malicious damage to property and incitement to violence.

The offences were committed on Monday at the school premises situated in Kyumbi area when the KTN journalists visited the school on a follow up story of a missing student.

The case will be mentioned on June 18th.

The Media Council of Kenya issued a statement condemning the attack.

“While it is within the right of the school leadership to decline media interviews, it is against the law for anyone to incite and attack journalists while in their line of duty.”

MCK through its chairman David Omwoyo has urged police to speed up investigations into the incident and bring the culprits to book.
