An estimated 23 million boys and men were married as children, the UN children’s agency said on Friday.
According to the UN, 115 million boys and men worldwide are married off as child grooms.
The UN data showed that the highest rate of child marriage around the world is in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Latin America, East Asia and the Pacific.
The highest prevalence of child marriage is in Central African Republic at 28%, then Nicaragua at 19% and Madagascar at 13%.
Unicef executive director Henrietta Fore said child marriages force children to take responsibilities they are not ready for.
