Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s calls for single women to accept to be second wives has drawn mixed reactions.
The Tweet post that polygamy should be embraced drew wide support from both men and female followers.
Babu says that polygamy will help single women find husbands.
The fans cheered and cited wisdom in Owino’s post.
Babu is not the first legislator to support polygamy.
Lat year, Laikipia woman representative Catherine Waruguru who is a second wife herself bodly advised kenya women to consider getting married as second wives to avoid being single mothers.
“I’d encourage majority of Kenyan women who are single and they’ve found a man who they think can be a good friend and a husband, moving forward, and they love their children.
We do not have to raise our children as single mothers,” said the woman rep.
Kiambu county women rep Gathoni Wamuchomba, also encouraged men to marry more wives arguing that children of single mothers who grow up without a father end up in drinking dens.
A section of Kenyans oppose polygamy despite it being valid in the marriage act.
This sentiment has however been strongly opposed by religious groups.
