Kenya will experience drought starting July. According to Agriculture CS Eugene Wamalwa, the drought situation experienced in 13 counties earlier this year will continue despite the rains.
Wamalwa further said that weather experts predict that the number of counties affected is set to go up from 13.
“In May we experienced some rains which have brought some relief to the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands counties which were hard hit by the drought,” said Wamalwa.
The CS was speaking while exchanging a report on emergency humanitarian rice donated by the people’s republic of China to mitigate the effects of the 2017/2018 drought in Kenya.
Early this year, Kenya was hit by one of the worst cases of drought in 38 years. The government of China is said to have donated 12 tons of rice worth Sh2.5 billion with the first consignment arriving in mid-May.
