Controversial blogger Robert Alai has been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives.
He was arrested because he posted pictures of soldiers who died as a result of an explosion, which happened when their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device in Wajir.
On his Twitter handle, activist Boniface Mwangi condemned Alai’s arrest, stating that the blogger was within his rights to expose how the state handles bodies of dead officers.
Alai had justified posting the pictures, stating that he was speaking for police officers who are neglected by the government.
The DCI condemned posting of the photos, terming the move ‘tantamount to supporting terrorism’ and instructed him to pull down the photos, which he did.
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission had earlier weighed in on this issue, stating that the photos were insensitive and gruesome.
Alai has been taken to the DCI headquarters for questioning.
