The 20s is the most sensitive stage of your life. This is because you get to identify yourself in terms of career, finances, hustle, what you want in a partner, whether to get married or not or pursuing further studies like Masters/PhD. The list is endless.
The decisions you make now will dictate your future. So, before doing something think about it first.
In as much as you want to live the ‘YOLO life’ remember there are dreams, goals and good grades that need to be achieved. Don’t you want your future children going to the best schools? Don’t you want to travel all over the world? It feels good when you are living the life you wanted.
We are prone to mistakes, which are avoidable. Here are some of the four things you need to avoid in your 20s:
Having friends that are not adding any value in your life
The bible says, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm (Proverbs 13:20).
Friends make a huge impact in our lives in terms of our growth. If you have friends that help you draw closer to God, challenge your ideas, correct you when on the wrong, motivate, support you genuinely and have no negativity, you are winning! There will be great growth and such friends are definitely for keeps.
Choose your friends wisely.
Family comes first
Always remember you did not choose to be in the family you are in. God is the one that positioned you there. There are times one feels like they do not need family because they feel all grown up and can make their own decisions. So anything the parent says does not make sense.
No matter what happens, family comes first because they have supported and taken care of you. Pay attention to whatever your parent, guardian or an elder says, because they know best.
Living the YOLO (you only live once) life
This is one of the life mantras most young people in their 20s live by. The YOLO is the life of consuming heavy drugs, partying all the time, sleeping around with anyone/married people, receiving short cut things… Ask yourself at the end of the day, what value does it add? There is a price you will pay later in life for those bad decisions.
Nobody is saying you stop having fun, just have control and be wise.
Giving up on your dream
Any dream can be achieved once you set your mind to it but it’s sad most young people give up on their dreams due to peer pressure, not believing in themselves, lack of finances or life distractions.
Never give up on your dream because it will eventually come to be achieved. What you need to do is keep God first, focus, be patient and learn because there will be ups and downs that mould you.
