A Kakamega youth leader has presented a petition to the National Assembly seeking to increase university and technical college fees.
Kagoli Ayiro, from Likuyani, said the government needs to create a graduates’ fund so that students can create a saving scheme which will help them build capital for future investment.
The scheme will also allow students to get an income and attain personal financial goals, a successful livelihood, and financial freedom after graduating.
However, upon graduation, the government will be forced to give back the students’ double of what they saved while in school.
The funds will encourage entrepreneurship in the country, which is seen as one of the solutions to the unemployment problem.
This comes at a time when graduates are grappling with a high rate of unemployment in the country.
