Assassination: the letter and the George Saitoti connection

What caused the four cabinet secretaries to get implicated was the reference to the timing of the late internal security minister George Saitoti’s death.

According to a letter written by an anonymous CS, the PS Interior Karanja Kibicho said the same way Saitoti was eliminated, the Deputy President William Ruto can be stopped.

“Even Saitoti who was planning to run for the presidency was stopped. Who does this one think he is?” the anonymous CS only identified as ‘your loyal CS’ quoted the PS.

Saitoti died in a plane crush in Nong Forest alongside his permanent secretary Orwa Ojode on June 10, 2012.

The unidentified CS asked to be exempted from the meetings by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had asked the CSs and government officials to convene.

“Your Excellency, I have an issue with this whole arrangement. In my entire life as a public servant I have never involved myself in politics, conspiracy and hate campaigns leave alone plotting to eliminate political leaders,” the ‘loyal CS’ said.

The unidentified CS said that he had been summoned by the PS Interior Karanja Kibicho to a meeting held at Hotel La Mada on Thika Road at 6:30pm.

There were three key agendas during the meeting which allegedly happened at Hotel La Mada off Thika Road.

The first agenda was “to shore up support for H.E the president in Mt. Kenya and its diaspora.” The second agenda was to discuss the proposed referendum. But it was the third agenda which raised the alarm of the author of the letter which was to “go on the offensive against H.E the DP”.

The attendees of the meeting were the Trade and Industrialization CS Peter Munya, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, the Health CS Sicily Kariuki, and Transport CS James Macharia.

Also in attendance were Permanent Secretaries from Mt Kenya region including Laikipia and Nakuru and CEOs from various state corporations.

On Monday, CSs Munya, Mucheru, and Kariuki, presented themselves at the DCI headquarters after being accused of plotting to assassinate the DP in a meeting held at Hotel La Mada on May 14, 2019.

The allegations were made by the DP who called the DCI to report that his life was in danger.

The accused CSs denied the allegations and said they will only write a statement after the complainant has recorded their statement.

DCI officials are currently investigating on the origin of the letter and its authenticity.
