A family in Mirisho area of Kajiado County on Tuesday morning rose to the task of exhuming the bodies of their loved ones who were buried along the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
The family said they had decided to exhume the bodies as their loved ones deserved a peaceful place to rest.
Family members said they have been waiting for the government to compensate them so that they could buy new land and lay their loved ones to rest.
However, they told Citizen Digital that the National Lands Commission (NLC) have not given them compensation as promised during evacuation.
“These developments the government is initiating is actually causing people more pain than happiness,” said one of the family members.
The family said the government is only in a hurry to complete Phase two of SGR by August without compensating them for their land and houses which were demolished on June 18, 2019.
“We decided to exhume the bodies before SGR Phase two construction begins,” said the family member.
