The Assistant Chief of Maina Location in Nyahururu – Laikipia County, Purity Mumbi, was on Friday feted with a Master of Science in Finance.

She graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) – Nakuru Campus.

“I am very happy and that’s why I had a thanksgiving ceremony. I feel proud to call myself MSC Finance and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA),” the 39 year old told Inooro TV.

“I used to wake up in the morning to read before I go to work then in the evening I would go for private classes,” Mumbi recalled.

Then at the end of the week, the assistant chief would commute from Nyahururu to Nakuru to attend her classes.

The single parent says that attaining a degree in finance sparked in her a nagging urge to pursue a masters.

Nobody in that area has ever attained a Masters degree. Chief Mumbi attributes this success to her hard work, sacrifice, and focus.

Mumbi is not yet content as she plans on returning to the university to pursue a Ph.D.

“On my graduation day, I realized that the names of those receiving PhDs were not just being mentioned. They went to the front, knelt down and a hat was placed on their heads. I long for that day I’ll kneel down and my title changes to Dr. Purity Mumbi,” she says passionately.
