Detectives from the Special Crime Unit have arrested a controversial ‘businessman’ Paul Kobia in his Riverside home.
Kobia was arrested on Wednesday alongside 14 other suspects in connection with a multi-million fake gold scam.
Confirming the arrest, Director of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti said Kobia was arrested following a report made by a complainant from Dubai, who was allegedly conned over Sh 170 million for the sale of suspected fake gold.
“The detectives raided his residence in Nairobi after we received a complaint from Dubai implicating the businessman in a gold scam,” said Kinoti.
Kobia denied the allegations, saying his arrest has nothing to do with the fake gold scum. He claimed it was because of the announcement he made recently of running for the presidency in 2022.
The arrests come barely a month after 15 suspects linked to the multi-million fake gold scandal were arrested in Kileleleswa.
