New drug to boost women’s libido in bed

Palatin Technologies and Amag Pharmaceuticals’ drug came up with therapy to restore sexual desire in premenopausal women. It has been named as the ‘female viagra’.

The therapy Vyleesi is chemically known as bremelanotide, which activates pathways in the brain involved with sexual desire. It helps the pre-menopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder.

One of the advantages of this drug is, it does not restrict the use of alcohol.

The drug is administered as a shot into the abdomen or thigh using an auto-injector at least 45 minutes before engaging in any sexual activity. An individual should not take more than one dose within 24 hours or more than eight doses per month.

During clinical trials, there are side effects that were detected, which is mild to moderate nausea. It does not last for more than two hours and occurs during the first three doses.
