Jazz music to be played at Bob Collymore’s memorial service

To honour Bob Collymore’s love for jazz music, a community group from Korogocho called Ghetto Classics will be entertaining guests with jazz music at his Memorial Service.

The group, together with the Safaricom Youth Orchestra, will later perform a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s My Way.

Due to his love for jazz, he spearheaded the launch of the Safaricom International Jazz Festival in February 2014.

The festival, which happens annually, attracts jazz artists from all over the world. It has also provided an opportunity for Kenyans to interact and develop a liking for the jazz genre.

“All proceeds go towards supporting Ghetto Classics, a non-profit, community-based programme that seeks to transform the lives of youth from underprivileged backgrounds by introducing them to the world of live jazz and classical music,” reads an excerpt from the International Jazz Festival website.

Bob Collymore also enjoyed playing the saxophone.

He passed away on Monday after battling acute myeloid leukemia for about two years.
