Six students from Usenge Boys High School were on Sunday morning arrested for allegedly planning to burn down their school.

The students from this school in Siaya County were arrested with a jerrycan of petrol and a matching box.

According to Bondo Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Wafula, the students are being held in police custody as they investigate what their motive could have been.

“A dorm inspection lead to the discovery of the jerrycan of petrol and matchbox that was hidden by the students,” said Wafula.

Last month, Education CS Prof George Magoha vowed to deal with students who threatened to burn down schools and reward teachers who stopped these students.

“For me, even one building being burnt when we don’t have enough money to construct others is very painful, can we have the names of those teachers who thwarted the fires so that they come and be rewarded,” said Magoha.
