Former Chief Justice Bernard Chunga on Monday announced that he will not accept a chairmanship position offered to him by Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji.
According to a letter dated July 8, 2019 and signed by Bernard Chunga, Noordin had offered Chunga the chairmanship of task of the Operationalization of Inspection Unit at ODPP.
“Due to other pressing commitments I have undertaken elsewhere, I regret to advise that I will not be able to undertake the appoitment. It remains to wish you, your office and the Task Force the very best in all your endeavours,” said Chunga in response to the job offer.
The public had protested about the appointment of the ex-chief justice saying there are more capable individuals who can be given the position.
Chama Cha Mawakili, a lobby group, had also filed a suit demanding that Chungwa’s appointment be revoked.
The group cited Chungwa’s resignation as the chief justice in 2003, saying he was not a reliable leader.
