Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) had reportedly introduced canning as a way to discipline students who fail to adhere to the rules and regulations of the institution.
According to an internal memo dated July 1, 2019, students who are found to be indiscipline will be required to report to a committee where they will be punished.
The memo indicates that the indisciplined students will receive not less than 15 strokes of cane.
In the memo, the school administration warns that students who do not follow the caning rule will be expelled from school.
The memo, however, has numerous grammatical errors casting doubt on its credibility. It goes ahead to give class representatives authority to punish other students.
“Lecturers and class representatives have the mandate of punishing anyone who disobeys the rules and laws of the institutions.
Another press statement has also been seen where KCA denies introducing canning for disobedient students.
The institution termed the former memo as fake saying KCA does not condone corporal punishment.
“We have commenced investigations to establish the source of this illegitimate communication,” read the press statement.
