Kenyans are now demanding for the renaming of the lakes found around Mt. Kenya.
Some of the 26 lakes found in the mountain are named after British citizens who lived in Kenya around the colonization era.
Kenyans put Kenya Forest Service on the edge for maintaining the British names instead of giving them names of local heroes who fought for Kenya’s independence or local heroes who fought and continue to fight for the environment.
Among names suggested include the late Prof. Wangari Maathai, Dedan Kimathi and environmentalist Paula Kahumbu.
A section of netizens felt the names are taking Kenya way back to the era of colonization and because times have changed, the names must follow suit.
Here are some sentiments from netizens.
