Victor Wanyama, Olunga dropped in African Nations Championships qualifier squad

The stage has been set for another East African derby scheduled for July 28, 2019, in Dar es Salaam Tanzania.

Harambee Stars Coach Sébastien Migné has already named the provisional squad which will face Taifa Stars for the upcoming Africa Nations Championships qualifier.

A press statement sent to media houses says the players will report to camp on July 19, ahead of the first leg. The second leg will be played at the Moi International Stadium Kasarani on August 4, 2019.

The aggregate winner of the two-legged qualifier will tackle Sudan in the second and final qualifying round, to be played on a date set to be announced in due course.

In the new lineup, Victor Wanyama and Michael Olunga conspicuously missing.

The final tournament, reserved for players actively featuring in their respective national championships, has been scheduled for January 2020.

Gor Mahia has the highest number of players in the team, providing 5, followed by Kariobangi Sharks who have 4 and Mathare, Ulinzi and AFC Leopards with 3 players each.

The derby comes after Harambee Stars edged out Tanzania 3-2 in a thrilling Group C AFCON match played at the 30 June stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

Unfortunately, both Kenya and Tanzania were knocked out at the group stages as group members Algeria and Senegal qualify to the semi-finals.
