A man in Murang’a County was on Tuesday arrested after being found in possession of Sh892,000 fake old currency.
Kandara OCPD Paul Wambugu said the suspect was arrested with the fake currency in his car at Kabati Police Station where he had been summoned on a case of cow theft syndicate.
The police checked his car after he acted suspiciously and retrieved the fake money with chemicals used to make the money.
According to the police, two other suspects were arrested in the same area for suspicion of running a syndicate that cons mobile money agents.
Wambugu told Nation Media that the two were depositing fake money to Mpesa but one of the attendants they tried to con realised that the money was fake.
Wambugu asked residents to be cautious so as not to fall victims to fraudsters, especially since most of them are still getting used to the new currency.
