Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga Monday said a gang from the outlawed sect, Mungiki in regrouping to take over Nyeri county.
Addressing the residents of Nyeri at Kamukunji Grounds, the governor said he has intelligence from security personnel about the gang revamping in an effort to take control of the county.
Kahiga added that he won’t allow the events of April 20, 2009, where 29 people were butchered in cold blood to re-occur.
‘’My administration will not condone the regrouping of Mungiki in Nyeri county after being cleared by the national government,’’ Kahiga said.
He urged youth not to be used by selfish politicians and concentrate on things that will help them improve their lifestyles.
The governor said politicians seeking power in 2022 are misusing the youth to push their agenda.
Earlier on, some leaders accused the governor of branding people as Mungiki in a scheme to crash them politically and avert criticism.
In those days the group imposed illegal taxes on people in the region, causing economic torture.
They also collected household and domestic animal taxes and demanded protection fees from the residents.
