Sportpesa employees may be sent home due to the ongoing standoff between betting firms and the government.
Sources at the betting firm say the company held a meeting with its employees on Wednesday to inform them that the management plans to shut down Kenya business.
It is said that Sportpesa is now planning to concentrate on its Tanzania and Uganda businesses.
Sportpesa also reportedly held talks with the government concerning the suspension of the bills but the discussions bore no fruits.
The government ordered telcos to shut paybill lines of betting companies starving them of revenues.
On July 17, 2019, Sportpesa sued the government citing loss of revenue due to the days they have been out of business.
Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangí vowed to be tough on betting companies and true to his word most of these companies pay bills were closed until they comply with tax regulations.
