The Elgeyo Marakwet senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, has discredited the charges of those arrested in connection with the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal, calling them a ‘charade’.
“I have looked at the charge sheets and I can tell you the entire thing is a charade,” Senator Murkomen was quoted by journalist Augustine Sang.
The Senate Majority Leader presented himself at the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) so as to represent some of the suspects in the scandal.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, on Monday ordered the arrest of 28 individuals. Among them were Treasury CS Henry Rotich and three other treasury officers.
The 28 are on the spot for illegalities in the awarding of the Arror and Kimwarer tender to a broke Italian firm, CMC Di Ravenna.
“The investigations established that government officials flouted all procurement rules and abused their oath of office to ensure the scheme went through. Many procurement procedures as stipulated by the law for such projects were ignored and the law was circumvented to ensure that CMC Di Ravenna got the contract,” Hajj said told journalists on Monday.
