Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has warned MCAs in Garissa against joining the ‘Punguza Mzigo’ bandwagon led by Thirdway Alliance Party leader Dr. Ekuru Aukot.
According to the leader of the majority in the National Assembly, the MCAs risk facing the wrath of the people if they pass the referendum bill.
He was speaking at Boys Town Secondary School is his constituency on Sunday where the Kenya Literature Bureau was donating books worth Sh5 million.
The outspoken legislator further vowed that he would take it upon himself to ensure the bill flops when submitted to the county assemblies.
According to Duale, the only good thing about the bill is the fact that it is pushing for the increment of counties revenues to 35 percent, up from the current 15 percent.
Duale’s warning to MCAs comes a few days after Thirdway Alliance received the go-ahead from IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to go the county assemblies level.
The initiative which seeks to reduce the financial burden that is taking a toll on Kenyans due to the high public wage bill caused by over-representation and gigantic salaries for elected leaders garnered 1.2 million signatures.
Aukot said some of the issues they want to address through a referendum include reducing salaries of the president and other elected leaders and reducing the presidency term to one seven-year term.
