Kiambu county assembly speaker Hon Stephen Ndichu is set to be impeached by his MCAs on abuse of office charges.
The speaker had been in the political cold for 15 years after being ousted as Juja MP by former Kiambu governor William Kabogo in 2002. He tried to vie for various seats and failed until he was offered a lifeline and made speaker of the Kiambu county assembly.
Things seem to have taken a turn for the worst after 60 MCAs out of 92 signed an impeachment motion against him. He is accused of the following crimes;
He is accused of undermining the authority of the county service board and conflict of interest for hiring his daughter in the assembly.
He dishonestly received Sh323,898 from Shandong Henry Machinery Manufacturing Company in China ostensibly for an inspection visit he undertook knowing fully well he did not undertake such a visit.
The county assembly bought him a business class ticket with a substantial amount of money for airport transfer and other expenses leading to loss of public funds.
He demanded his official car, a Mercedes Benz be given an extreme makeover to befit his status at a cost of Sh2.5 million.
During the makeover, he was given a maroon Ford Everest by the assembly but rejected it and demanded a more luxurious one.
To this effect, a black Toyota Prado was hired which he still rejected and proceeded to personally hire a Prado 150 series from a non-pre-qualified provider against procurement laws costing the county Sh960,000.
Later he demanded that the county buy him a similar vehicle which was procured for Sh13 million and had its number plates exchanged with fake GK plates. The car later got into an accident and was not compensated by the insurer due to irregularities.
He is alleged to have also inflated the cost of air tickets for trips to Mexico and Italy.
Mr Ndichu has fallen back to the standard trope of politicians and has termed it a witchhunt. He has claimed to be a Christian and therefore cant commit fraud which is laughable and ridiculous.
