Miguna accuses President Uhuru of using Huduma Namba for illegal surveillance

Controversial politician Miguna Miguna has dismissed claims by the government that Huduma Namba will be used to bring services near to the people.

According to Miguna, the government is going to use Huduma Namba to illegally surveil on citizens.

“Uhuru’s Huduma Namba is for dubious nefarious and unconstitutional surveillance of citizens, manipulation of elections and referenda to institutionalise tyranny,” Miguna said on Twitter.

Miguna also said President Uhuru Kenyatta was not telling Kenyans the truth that the American and Canadian Social Security numbers are only used for taxation.

“The forceful collection of personal information from Kenyans by Uhuru’s government on the basis that other countries are doing the same is a lie,” Miguna said.

“The American Social Security Number doesn’t involve the taking and storage of fingerprints and DNA of residents or citizens. It is equivalent to the Kenyan PIN not Huduma Number,” he argued.

Despite Miguna’s comments, the government of Kenya does not collect DNA during Huduma Namba registration.

Government spokesman Cyrus Oguna said there will be a time when Kenyans will have to show their Huduma Namba to receive government services.

On July 19 2019, the government announced that it will conduct a second mass Huduma Number registration on a date yet to be announced.
