Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has accused Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich of being behind the country’s debt crisis.
Atandi alleges that Rotich’s strategy for Kenya’s growth in revenue was to keep borrowing so as to make huge investments.
He said the CS had in an earlier committee meeting said that Kenya was unable to generate own revenues and therefore needed to borrow money.
The legislator further accused Rotich of being arrogant and deemed the embattled CS unfit to hold the finance office.
The Kimwarer and Arror dam scandal is not the first time Rotich has found himself on the wrong side of the law.
In 2014, Kenyans were up in arms against the Sh280 billion Eurobond loan.
He, however, was unable to give a detailed account of how the money was spent, an issue that angered taxpayers even more.
Rotich took over the Treasury when the public debt stood at Sh1.7 trillion. The debt now stands at a staggering Sh5.1 trillion.
Rotich was arrested on Monday after an order issued by DPP Noordin Haji over Sh17 billion extra money he borrowed for the construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams.
