Detectives on Wednesday arrested a police officer for allegedly demanding Sh200,000 from an employee at the Treasury whom the officer claimed was under investigation.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that Corporal Daniel Arimba Rioba, a police officer, attached to Kamukunji police station was arrested at the Treasury building as he was waiting to collect the bribe.
Rioba, together with his accomplice who escaped arrest, they also arrested another businessman at the same building and demanded an additional Sh 100,000 from him.
The businessman was told that he was under arrest because of the claims of forgery levelled against him.
The arrested officer was in the company of another officer who escaped during the scuffle.
DCI Director George Kinoti, has warned the public against fake DCI officers.
“I urge members of the public to always insist on being shown the certificate of appointment whenever anyone purports to be a DCI officer,” Kinoti said.
Meanwhile, the detectives have launched a manhunt for Rioba’s accomplice who escaped arrest.
