ODM party on Thursday declared that they will not be supporting Punguza Mizigo Bill proposed by Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot.
Speaking on behalf of ODM, Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna said they have rejected Punguza Mizigo as it limits the representation of Kenyans.
“We voted in the 2010 constitution so that Kenyans can be represented…we want as many voices to be heard and reducing MPs will affect that,” said Sifuna.
Sifuna also asked other leaders to reject the Bill saying that it only looks good from the outside but will negatively impact the country.
“It is our considered view that the Bill must be rejected as it is a few sound proposals sandwiched between contradictory, outrageous and unsound ones,” said Sifuna.
John Mbadi, also a key ODM party member, on Wednesday said the Punguza Mizigo Bill is a wasted effort as it will not go far.
Mr Mbadi said the party will only support a referendum that creates a position of prime minister and two deputies.
