East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Oburu Oginga has called the repossession of his land by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission an action of ‘cheap publicity’.
The brother to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga said that he legally acquired the Kenya Railways Corporation land in 2001 from the government which had advertised several plots in the dailies.
“EACC should not make it a habit of rushing to the media as if there is a major corruption scandal. They should gather evidence and take it to court,” Oginga said in a press conference on Sunday.
Oginga claimed that he had been singled out on the basis that he is Odinga’s brother.
He discredited the media reports that his land is half an acre which costs Sh30 million. The legislator says that his is only an eighth of an acre and it cannot amount to that much money.
“EACC is targeting small fish and leaving out the mega corruption,” Oginga said.
On Friday, EACC repossessed 0.14 hectares of land from Oginga on the basis that it was acquired irregularly. The said land is located at Kenya Railways Corporation in Kisumu.
