A police officer was reportedly killed and another one injured following a gun battle near Wilson airport on Saturday night.
Confirming the incident, Langata OCPD Gregory Mutiso said assailants attacked two General Service Unit (GSU) officers attached to Wilson airport, killing one and injuring the other.
Mutiso said the deceased met his death as he tried to rescue his colleague who was being robbed a gun by the assailants who were reportedly masquerading as police officers.
“Constable Stephen Mukangi was shot at close range and died at the scene before he was robbed his AK47 rifle while his colleague managed to escape with a leg injury,” said Mutiso.
He said two men asked the officers to offer them assistance for their car which they said had developed a mechanical problem near the airport.
“As the officer went two-assist two more men attacked him robbing him a move that prompted his colleague to intervene,” he added.
The police boss said they recovered two magazines with 60 bullets and two spent cartridges from the scene.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the assailants.
