Singer Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, has said she will not hire inexperienced individuals in her Akothee Safaris company.
An Instagram user identified as Lillian Jowi had put the musician on blast for putting out a job vacancy poster that required applicants to have 5 years experience.
“In Kenya all employers look for people with experience and mostly there are no jobs how will we gain experience? Hire people with no experience and get them trained with more experienced people,” read part of Lillian’s message to Akothee.
In response to the fan, the singer revealed that she does not hire inexperienced people because they come with big salary expectations.
“The inexperienced ones come with big salary expectations and expect to be paid with zero job done. I have tried and failed with trying to provide opportunities either you work, produce results or go home” said Akothee.
Job seekers, especially those straight out of higher learning institutions, complain of potential employers seeking to only employ people with skills and experience.
A 2018 report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) stated that seven million Kenyans are unemployed.
