The management of Ebenezer Academy in Bungoma is on the spot after it emerged that a class 8 pupil had to be hospitalized after being abused by a teacher.
The 14-year-old boy was flogged by his English teacher for attaining 81 marks instead of the target 100.
The pupil who is admitted at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital, alleges that he was mercilessly canned to the point he became unconscious and is now unable to walk.
The school’s director, identified only as Wanyama is said to have pleaded with the boy not to inform anyone of what had transpired, promising to foot the medical expenses.
According to the boy’s father, he received a call that informed him his son was in a critical condition at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, only to realise he has been admitted at a private facility.
The school director then demanded a refund of Sh200,000 which he had spent on the boy’s treatment and demanded the boy be discharged from the private hospital as he could no longer afford the bills.
Mr. Wanyama refutes the allegations from the boy and his parents, stating that the boy fell ill and he acted as a good samaritan by taking him to hospital and footing the bills.
A statement from the hospital, however, contradicts the director’s allegation as the institution administrator Dan Oswano confirmed that the teenager had blocked veins which could have been caused by injuries on his back and buttocks and is scheduled for surgery.
The boy’s parents have reported the matter to the police station and are booked under OB number 79/05/08/19.
