Matiang’i declares Monday a public holiday

The Interior and Coordination of National Security Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang‘i, has declared Monday, August 12, a public holiday.

This is to honour Islamic holiday – Eid-Ul-Adha.

The islamic holiday is a two day festival that commemorates the willingness of Ibraham to sacrifice his son Ismail. Ibrahim’s son was replaced by a lamb.

Muslims mark the celebration by slaughtering a lamb, sheep, goat or a camel to honour Ibrahim’s sacrifice. They then celebrate together with their families.

Ten days before Eid-Ul-Adha, Muslims are expected to pray fervently, otherwise known as ibadat.
