Woman who killed man at 16 years released after graduating with degree

A Tennessee woman who was imprisoned at the age of 16, for killing a man has been released.

Cyntoia Brown agreed to killing 43 year old Johnny Mitchell Allen in 2004 , who had paid her for sex. Brown said she shot Mitchell when he saw him reaching out for something that looked like a gun.

By that time, Brown had eloped with her 24 year old boyfriend, whom she says forced her into prostitution.

Brown, now 31, was supposed to be imprisoned for life. However, her conduct during her time in prison, won the hearts of the prosecutors.

A documentary was even made in 2011 called “Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story,” about Brown’s life in prison.

Brown will now be on parole for the next 10 years.

She has vowed to use the rest of her life serving people.

“My hope is to help other young girls avoid ending up where I have been,” Brown told NBC News.
