General Robert Kibochi has taken over as the new Chief of Defense Forces from the outgoing General Samson Mwathethe.
General Kibochi was handed over military power at the DoD headquarters, in a ceremony that was attended by among others Defence CS Monica Juma, Attorney General Paul Kihara and Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo.
General Kibochi thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving him the opportunity to serve the country in an even bigger role, promising to continue with “the good work that Gen Mwathethe did”.
“On behalf of KDF family, I’m pleased to extend our collective best wishes to Gen. Mwathethe. You have led substantial contribution to the KDF in your 42 years of service,” said Gen Kibochi.
General Kibachi will assume his new position on Monday, May 11, with a swearing-in ceremony to be held at State House.
General Mwathethe, a navy man, took over the command of the Kenya Defense Forces from general Julius Karangi back in May 2015, and now retires after serving for 42 years (since 1978) in the military.
He was accorded a 17-gun salute at the DoD headquarters, as a sign of respect for his service.
