The Senate on Friday, May 22 resolved to remove Senator Kithure Kindiki as the Deputy Speaker on grounds of gross violation of the Political Parties’ Act.
This is after 54 senators voted to support Kindiki’s ouster motion tabled in the House by Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata.
For a speaker or his/her deputy to be successfully removed, a motion requires the support of 45 senators.
According to Senator Kang’ata, the Moment Kindiki snubbed the Jubilee PG meeting convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta on May 11 at State House, his goose was cooked.
The seven senators who voted against the motion include Samson Cherargei, Susan Kihika, Lang’at Christopher, Linturi Mithika, Kipchumba Murkomen, Nderitu John Kinyua and Kindiki himself.
