President Uhuru Kenyatta has declared three days of national mourning in honour of the departed former Tanzania President Benjamin Mkapa.
During this time, the Kenyan flag and that of the East African Community shall be flown at half mast from sunrise Monday, July 27 to sunset on Wednesday, July 29.
Benjamin Mkapa, the third president of the United Republic of Tanzania, died in the early hours of Friday, July 24.
In Benjamin Mkapa, President Uhuru says, the people of Kenya have lost a close friend and brother who stood with them during some of the darkest hours.
Mkapa played a key role, together with Koffi Anna and Graca Machel, in the mediation process that ended the 2007/2008 post-election skirmishes.
