DCI detectives have arrested Abubakar Mansur Surur in Mombasa.
Abubakar Surur, who is flagged as a WANTED PERSON in the United States, was arrested on Wednesday, July 29 morning at the Moi International Airport Mombasa.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Abubakar Mansur Surur was landing in Kenya from Yemen, on board a chartered aircraft.
Surur is on the United State’s wanted list for ivory related offenses.
He is now in lawful custody, awaiting further processing.
In June 2019, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration charged Abubakari Mansur Surur and three others in a case where they were accused of trafficking at least 190 kilograms of rhino horn and 10 tonnes of ivory worth more than $7 million.
Head of Anti-Narcotic Police Unit Hamisi Masa told Reuters that they have been looking for the 60-year-old for the past two years and on Monday they got information that he would be among 33 passengers flying to Mombasa from Yemen.
