Winnie Odinga has slammed the Nairobi County elected leaders for what she says is letting city residents down.
“Nairobi elected officials need to give us all a break. Both Gov and Senator are drunk, DG missing, county assembly is just kelele. Nobody is working. I haven’t seen my MCA since 2017. Scrap the whole county and leave us in peace yawa!,” tweeted Winnie, who is also the daughter of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Winnie also faulted the county MCAs for engaging in mere politics and sideshows instead of delivering on development projects, to the detriment of Nairobians.
City Hall chaos and leadership crisis
Winnie was speaking after chaos was witnessed at City Hall when a section of MCAs allied to Governor Sonko wanted to evict speaker Beatrice Elachi from office.
Ever since Polycarp Igathe resigned as deputy governor in January 2018, Governor Sonko is yet to name his replacement.
The county leadership has experienced a leadership crisis ever since, with MCAs at one point starting the process of impeaching the county boss.
In February 2020, Governor Sonko surrendered four key functions of the county government to the National Government, a deal that Sonko has since claimed that he was intoxicated into signing.
Nairobians are now receiving key services from the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) a body that was formed to spearhead development projects in the city.
