Controversial blogger Edgar Obare was on Monday, August 3 released on a Sh100,000 cash bail, with an option of Sh300,000 bond.
Obare was charged in a Kiambu court with unlawfully publishing personal data of Natalie Tewa without her consent.
According to a police charge sheet, Natalie Wanjiru Githinji aka Natalie Tewa is suing Edgar Obare for unlawfully disclosing her personal data without her consent, contrary to section 72 (3) (b) as read with Section 73 of the Data Protection Act No. 24 of 2019.
“On diverse dates between 9th day of July, 2020 and 13th day of July, 2020 at unknown place, within the Republic of Kenya, using your social media accounts, domain name and verified Instagram account, unlawfully disclosed to your online followers, personal data to wit visa belonging to one Natalie Wanjiru Githinji without her consent,” read the charge sheet.
He will know his bail application fate this afternoon.
Obare was arrested on Thursday, July 30 in Kisumu and was taken to DCI headquarters in Nairobi for questioning.
