Former Makadara MP Benson Mutura is the new Nairobi County Assembly Speaker.
Mutura was on Friday, August 14 elected overwhelmingly to replace embattled Beatrice Elachi who resigned on Tuesday, August 11.
The Jubilee Party candidate was voted by 99 MCAs out of the possible 123. The vote was conducted via Zoom because of the COVID-19 containment measures that the government has put in place.
Starehe MP Charles Njagua aka Jaguar has congratulated Mutura albeit reminding him of the crucial and delicate position that he has now.
“Congratulations! Remember though, ‘To whom much is given, much is expected.’ I now ask for an end to leadership wrangles,” tweeted the lawmaker.
Njagua said that it is time elected leaders in the City worked together for the benefit of the people of Nairobi.
