Four suspects torturing and robbing victims through dating sites arrested in Ruaka

DCI detectives on Sunday, October 11 arrested four suspects believed to be part of a syndicate that has been luring unsuspecting victims through online dating sites to their dens before torturing and extorting money from them.

The first three suspects who have been identified as Benard Mbunga, Fredrick Mutiso Mutua and Catherine Mumbi Kivuva were arrested at a house in Ruaka.

Upon their arrest, they were in the process of torturing a Turkish national. Apparently, it was Mumbi who lured the victim to the house.

The fourth suspect, Kelvin Nzioka, was arrested at the Ruaka Cooperative Bank ATM booth. Nzioka was in possession of the Turkish national’s ATM cards and pins and was ready to do some transactions, besides having obtained some cash from the victims M-Pesa.

“It has since been established that the first suspect (Bernard Mbunga) was wanted after escaping through a perimeter wall in an earlier incident where an Indian national was robbed in like manner at Imara Daima, before recruiting the new team that has been nabbed today,” says the DCI.

DCI adds: “A Coop Bank PDQ machine and assorted mobile phones confiscated, with the victim being taken for medical attention. All suspects placed in custody pending arraignment.”
